My name is Sharon Azzinnaro, I would like to share that my header on the home page is my beautiful grandaughter, Maya.
I create unbelievably amazing real life like looking baby dolls. My artistry is the art of transforming a vinyl play, collector, or doll kit into a real life like looking baby doll.
Public reactions to seeing my babies are interesting and amazing. Police officers have stopped me and ask if my baby is properly buckled into the car seat. I have been chased down while fishing by another boater, angry because they thought I had left my baby unattended in the car. At a medical center, nurses and administration were angry and upset, and nearly called the police because they thought I left my baby inside the car while I was inside visiting. More than once I have been stopped before entering a lounge for dinner to be informed that I cannot take my baby into the lounge. Even after I explain, and after the observers examine, hold, and touch the baby doll themselves, they still cannot believe the baby is not real. My babies have even fool doctors.
I had just recently been confronted by a store clerk, two supervisors and a customer when I had stopped at a store, (Lowes), thought I would quickly run in. I normally post a note stating they are dolls, but was in a hurry so failed to post my note. They were furious thinking I left my baby’s unattended in the car while I shopped. They were still angry even after I explained to them they were not real.
My artistry begins by taking a doll apart and removing all factory color and hair. Afterwards, the doll is painted/colored with a heat set paint, and baked. Mohair (goat hair) is attached by rooting just a couple of strands at a time with a felting needle into the head of the doll. The new baby doll is given a soft cuddly body stuffed with doll pellets, giving the baby doll the weight and feel of a real baby. Even the new baby doll’s fingers and toes are delicately manicured and look authentic. Each baby doll is completely redone, created as a lifelike baby.
After I finish a baby doll I take the new baby shopping to find the perfect outfit for him or her. It is amazing watching and listening to people’s reactions, a fine reward after my finished work. Many people can’t resist stopping to admire a newborn baby and always comment on how cute my new baby is. Sometimes when asked how old my baby is, instead of giving them an explanation, I just say, “Four weeks old.”
My baby doll artistry is something you have to see to believe the realism.
I have been creating reborn babies for five years and, though I haven’t kept an exact count, I estimate I have made at least 100+ baby dolls. Some of my babies have been donated for missionary auctions, charities, and a doll has been given to a woman who had lost her baby in death. One of my babies were 1st Prize in a food bank raffle to raise money for a local food bank. My babies are sold locally around Spokane and throughout the United States.
I practice state of the art doll artistry and attends doll conventions and meet other doll artists. I continually learn new techniques and had just recently begun a new doll artistry genre, sculpting: creating baby dolls out of blocks of clay. I have sculpted six baby dolls. I love this new doll artistry, is self-taught, and describes myself as very detailed oriented and a perfectionist. I believe I have found my passion in life. I have hopes of someday I can quit my full time job and make a career in my baby doll artistry and sculpting.
